The Curtain Rises on Darke Hall’s Grand Re-Opening

Posted on Apr 25 2022

On Thursday, April 21, Darke Hall re-opened its doors – a day that has been years in the making for the University of Regina, Conexus Credit Union and the community as a whole.

Back in 2016, when the University of Regina issued a Request for Proposal to help with its renewal project of Darke Hall and College Avenue Campus – Conexus knew this was an opportunity to not only solve a community need but help foster collaboration, culture, innovation and entertainment in our city. As a credit union, being connected to our communities across Saskatchewan is a commitment we have upheld for the last 80+ years as a credit union as it is truly part of our fabric. Conexus and our members gave $8.25 million to the University to support their plans to save the historic campus. In addition, by building our Head Office next to Darke Hall, Conexus helped save the University an additional $10 million on infrastructure, maintenance, and utilities. This includes shared heating/cooling infrastructure and the construction of a shared link.

Through our partnership, we’re not only helping to save College Avenue Campus and restoring Darke Hall to a prestigious performing arts centre, but we’ve also created new public amenities for our community to enjoy for many more years to come. Our partnership with the University is an example of what’s possible when the community comes together to collaborate and solve problems.

Whether it is enjoying a concert performed by world class musicians or a recital by our loved ones – Darke Hall will empower incredible moments of community and connectivity in our province. It's been an honour to partner with the University of Regina and truly invest in our community’s past, present and future.
