It’s been a year since we unveiled the design of our new building and so much has happened since then. It’s even crazier to think that in less than a year’s time, we’ll be moving into the new building and you can soon enjoy all of the benefits of this new space.
Here are a few highlights from the last year as well as what’s to come!
The Building:
Since the design unveiling, we excavated the building site, brought a large crane on-site to help lift building materials, poured the foundation and completed the framework of the building. The large crane has since been removed from the site and we’re now in the final stages of weatherproofing the building so we can begin all of the interior work.
The building will house Conexus’ non-member facing, corporate services employees as well as Cultivator powered by Conexus. The main floor of the building will be accessible to the public and includes a café, public washrooms, water-filling stations and more.
Starting spring, we will begin to landscape around the building, matching the aesthetics of the park.
Road Realignment:
Part of our project includes moving Wascana Drive westwards and straightening the Lorne Street intersection at College Avenue. In addition to straightening the intersection, it will be signalized, creating a safer intersection and gateway into the park. The new road will also provide parking on both sides of the road, compared to the one side it did previously, providing more parking for park-goers.
The majority of this work has been completed and we anticipate the road to reopen later this year.
Cultivator powered by Conexus:
Earlier this year, we launched Cultivator powered by Conexus, Canada’s first credit union led business incubator. Through Cultivator, we’ll help launch, grow and scale local startups.
Cultivator will be located on the north side of the building, using 15,000 square feet of the space. It will occupy portions of the ground and second-floor levels, and includes a pitch space and has a connection to the Atrium and Darke Hall link.
The Atrium & Darke Hall Link:
Just recently, we began the framework for the shared atrium to link Darke Hall and our building. This shared atrium will provide accessible, barrier-free access into Darke Hall as well as an expanded lobby and crush space, enhancing the patron experience. It also creates the opportunity for us to share heating/cooling infrastructure with the University of Regina, in turn allowing the University to save money on maintenance and utilities in the years to come.
