Site Construction Project Update

Posted on Nov 22 2018

As part of our continued commitment to our members and the community, here is the latest information on construction and activities of the Conexus Building Communities project.

Site Excavation & Foundation Work:

Excavation of the Conexus Building Communities site completed in October 2018, and formwork for the foundation has begun.

Road Realignment & Wascana Pool:

The realignment of Wascana Drive continues, and includes moving the road west and straightening the Lorne Street intersection at College Avenue. The road realignment is anticipated to be completed by Fall 2019.

We’ve also updated utility infrastructure, including adding a new water line to the site. At the end of September, we connected this new water line to Wascana Pool, which will provide a new water feed to Wascana Pool when they open next season.

Large Crane Assembly:

At the end of November a large tower crane, approx. 35 meters tall, will be erected on the southwest corner of the site. A specialized crew is being brought in to erect the crane. It is a multi-day process and includes pouring a foundation to secure the base of the crane.

This crane will assist in lifting materials, such as rebar, onto the new floors, as well as move formwork from one level to the next. The arm of the crane will only lift within the fence boundaries, but the overhead radius can reach over the site fencing in some areas. When non-operational, the arm will be left ‘weathervane’, meaning the arm of the crane can move during high winds. This could cause the overhead arm to reach outside of the fencing areas, but is not dangerous to the public and is a standard procedure for the industry.

The crane will be on site until summer 2019.
